Chester County Criminal History Through PATCH

The Pennsylvania Access to Criminal History system, known as PATCH, provides an official statewide background check. It is operated by the Pennsylvania State Police and costs $22 per request. PATCH searches the full state criminal history database, covering all 67 counties including Chester. This makes it a stronger tool than a single-county court search, especially when someone may have had cases in more than one Pennsylvania county.

Submit PATCH requests online at epatch.pa.gov. Online submissions are typically processed quickly. PATCH results come directly from the Pennsylvania State Police records system and are the only official source of a Pennsylvania criminal history background check. The Pennsylvania State Police website has details on PATCH, expungements, and DNA record removal.

For federal criminal history, the FBI offers a separate service that requires fingerprints and an $18 fee. Contact the FBI directly for that process. Chester County residents can also access the Chester County Prison Inmate Locator and the PA Megan's Law Website free of charge for additional public safety information.
